The Dirty 30 Charity Challenge 2007
Wednesday, 12 September 2007
Well we did it - but it was the hardest walk I have every done. If you recall, we planned to walk 30 miles in 15 hours at night over the Scottish mountains, with the objective of razing £4000 for charity.
The problem was not the distance, height or navigation - it was simply the terrain, to give you a taster. The section where it went dark was a Bog 3 miles long and 1 mile wide. There was no path marked across it, and therefore dead reckoning using a GPS was the only way across. By this time it was pitch dark, walking across a bog in the dark is an interesting experience, especially when every 10th step or so your foot disappears up to you knee in mud and bog water. This happens completely without warning - and normally when you are totally off balance. It took an age to get across.
